Many placements are a scam to get your confidential information

There's no way of knowing if any of the placements are for real. If you respond to requests for e-mail, or phone number, the alleged customers have info to *** your accounts.

If you're looking for real work, try someone else. Your information is not secure on this site. I made the mistake of responding to one posting and pulled the plug when a great deal of confidential information was requested....but only after I gave them my e-mail. Only after responding did the alleged customer provide info about the supposed job, three days a week, 3 hours a day, for $500 a week.

The alleged customer wanted my bank info to send me a check up front. They also wanted a phone number which turned out to be text-only.

They don't have that many postings in this area only. Beware.

Sittercity Babysitter Service Review from Los Angeles, California

As a nanny, Sittercity.com takes little to no precaution to protect nannies from scammers that come on the site posting fake jobs. The job offers a large salary and when the nanny contacts the prospective employer, the scammer convinces the nanny to send them money. I don't want to explain exactly how it's done for fear of giving dishonest, unscrupulous people any ideas. I will say that as an older, experienced nanny, I'm able to spot a scammer immediately. I can't say the same for young, unsuspecting nannies. If I can spot a scammer, so can Sittercity.com, but it appears to me that they just don't care. As long as they receive their fee for a job post, a scammer can post as many fake jobs as they like. You don't see the same thing happen on Care.com because they read through every single job posting before they approve it and allow it to run.

I'm with you. The scammers are obvious but I worry for younger people. It's disappointing that there is no way to flag them.

Close to 50% of jobs on SitterCity are scams

Sittercity.com appears to be completely lacking when it comes to any type of security that will catch scams. Just in the past 24 hours I've come across two different scams on the site. I've listed them below. As a rule of thumb DO NOT bother responding to any ad that asks you to contact them via email. ONLY use the Sittercity messaging service - otherwise there's a 99% chance you'll be dealing with a scammer. Also, I would be VERY hesitant to enter any private information into the SitterCity system - a site that is this lax in dealing with scams most likely is a site that can be VERY, VERY easily hacked (I have a MS in IT Security & from the few tests I've run on the site there is next to NO security protecting people's private information). This means that if you're entering your credit card number or other private info into their site, there's a good chance that the account/information will be stolen by hackers at some point. If you're working through SitterCity only accept CASH (or only pay in CASH). Two scams running on SitterCity 4/16/2016 and 4/17/2016 (I'm sure there are MANY more - these are just 2 I've come across): 1. A 'Hope A' posts asking for "We're currently looking for a neat housekeeper for our new home, must be clean, neat, punctual and hardworking. Kindly get back to me with your email addrs for more job details. thanks." 2. Using *real accounts* from the site (yes, it's that easy to *** into someone's account on SitterCity) you get a message that has the following phrase in it: "i will be coming from Canada to the state for an assignment and i will be coming with my collegues" -- any message or post with that phrasing is a SCAM.

Pros:
  • Idea behind the site
Cons:
  • Complete lack of security protecting users
Reason of review:
Severe lack of security on site is a danger for all

Preferred solution: SitterCity needs to add a level of security to their site (including automated scripts to catch scammers). SitterCity needs to follow best practices when it comes to web security to halt phishing & scams on their site.

Sittercity jobs

I keep getting scammers 1 out 4 jobs is real....it wastes my time plus not to mention I'm not making any money to pay my bills that are becoming late do to this foolishness, and all that are on here most the time are old jobs I've already applied to and never seem to get. Like right now all jobs are old should be taken off your list, and you should ck. For scammers I see 3 already. Most the jobs that say 25-50 an hr. Are usually scammers but what I want to know is....what do they do with this information they are collecting ? If you don't give them your soc.sec. # or drives lic #....which I never do, but I have sent my tests and references and certificates...that I have taken pics of. Not the real ones. Annie

I am having the same issue(s) with Care.com. As soon as I answer an ad...

within a day I get the scammer calls. I look up the number on whitepages.com and it notes a scammer situation.

On the out of date jobs... I figured since I am not a premium "paid" member on this "free" site..

I am just getting token jobs until I join up and pay up. AE

Kirstie M is a thief

She lives in the Evergreen on Hayden Lane Appartments in Tempe, AZ and her phone number is 480-***-8970. She'll tell you that she wants to pay you when she gets paid. She'll get you in for $158. Then she'll say she'll pay you a week later and then she'll have to go to California on an emergency because her drunk teenage sun gets into a car accident. She won't call and tell you that though, She'll leave you waiting in the heat. This is the point where she won't call you anymore and reply only by texts (even though she says she's driving. Bottom line is that you won't get paid and sittercity won't do anything since the transactions are done off line. So I've come here in the hopes that I can warn you, since they won't.

This is probably the first REAL legitimate complaint on this site. Everyone else is upset that someone looked at them "wrong" when taking their order. Sorry to hear what you went through.

I was trying to sign up as a babysitter and it immediately notified me that I didn't pass their "check" and proceeded to tell me the very expensive packages I could purchase to have a background check ran, which would be the only way to join the site. So, in actuality all they want is to charge your card for a bogus background check.

Thank you for leaving your feedback! We apologize for the experience you had on our website.

When a sitter joins our site, we do an Identification Verification. It sounds like the information you entered to register did not pass our identification screening, so our system then prompted you to purchase and complete a background check to verify your account.

Since typically this is not a requirement and it is free to use our site to apply for jobs, we are always happy to refund the background check charge when that happens. If you are currently still experiencing an issue signing up on our website, please feel free to reach out to our Member Services team Monday through Friday 8am to 4pm CST.

Sittercity Subscription Review from Tampa, Florida

Complete Scam!!! Paid for one month and every time we communicated with a sitter, they would sound great and be so interested in sitting for us.

The minute we tried to set up a meeting with them, they somehow always became MIA. No more communication. Meanwhile, we contacted the company to cancel so we would not be charged further. Well, we were charged for 3 months after.

When I tried to get a refund, they wouldn't give us anything back because THEY failed to cancel our account and THEY failed to send a confirmation of cancellation, which they insist we present to them in order to get any kind of refund. Wouldn't budge a bit. So even though their website says, "I forgot to cancel my subscription, can I get a refund? No worries, we get that life can get busy.

If you were charged within the last 5 days, we would be more than happy to cancel your subscription and process a full refund for your most recent charge. If more than 5 days have passed, you are eligible for a prorated refund of your most recent charge." Ummmm, it's a lie!!

Don't let them steal your money, regardless if you are a nanny or a customer, they will royally *** over! All I wanted was to get a job and instead I was forced to pay them. Trust me NEV ER USE THIS *** WEB SITE! YOU WILL ONLY LOSE YOUR MONEY!

BIG SCAM

I recently joined Sittercity. I thought I had found the right job for me.

I was wrong... It was nothing, but a BIG lie. A lady of the name, Amanda Smith, contacted me being super sweet telling me her father had passed away and she was out of the country for his funeral. Her husband and her thought I'd be the perfect nanny for their son when I received another email with a different name and basically the same story as she sent me.

At that moment I knew something was up. When she finally replied back to me she said they made the decision for me to be their nanny and that they would pay me my first weeks pay now so I don't fall behind on my bills. Right then and there I knew it was a scam. Usually you wait to see if they even show up.

That's exactly what I told her too. I'm still going along with her emails as if I know nothing. But I can't wait to confront her about it. You don't lie about someone passing away.

That's just wrong! I never write bad reviews, but I'm hoping this will help someone in the future. Be super careful of the personal information you reveal. I'm so happy I didn't release anything personal.

I deleted my sittercity account and am sticking with Care.com. I've found a lot of friendly people on there!

I've had a couple of jobs with them. Thanks for reading!

Exactly the same thing. I even received a check for a month wages. I'm contacting a lawyer for breach of contract and I still have the check

Same here!!! I received a check, deposited it, and then thought wait, why would a total stranger be giving me my pay already before meeting me?

I then went to my bank and closed my account. I still have the check and would love for this to be stopped.
